Located in a scenic neighborhood off of Canyon Rd., this large planting replaced long overgrown shrubs, which had been detracting from the curb appeal of this beautiful home. Located at the corner of a four way stop, this garden softly slopes towards the intersection, positioning it as a neighborhood landmark. The owners wanted a low-water, garden that offered year round blooms, some screening from traffic at the below intersection, and unusual foliage colors.
After removing the existing shrubs and amending the soil, The Hardy Bunch regraded the planting area creating berms and contour that created two planting faces, one towards the house and the other towards the street. This approach created the desired separation, while increasing dimension, high, and planting surface area. We chose a xeriscaping approach that features plants native to areas like California and South Africa, which require less water while still offering dramatic blooms. We also included a small crevice garden to manage erosion and runoff, while also creating a focal point that leads guests up the driveway to the house.
